Anna Harpendon had never been potholing before, yet this was exactly what her new boss, Kirsty Scrivener had dragged her into for her new job as an agent of the Department.

Here the two female agents were, deep in the mountains of north Wales, wrapped up tight in overalls and helmets. They had penetrated the unearthly environment of a Mi-Go nest. They were greeted by strange smells, and walls coated in thick slime. The winged fungus-crabs scurried about, in all different sizes. Their ears were assaulted by the sound of harsh buzzing.

The huge leader or controller of the nest stood before them.

Anna had seen pictures of the Mi-Go, even before she worked for the Department, but to actually be confronted by the weird alien beings was quite something else.

"The policy of Her Majesty's government is very clear. A Mi-Go nest in the United Kingdom is quite unacceptable," explained Anna firmly. Kirsty had briefed her on what needed to be conveyed. Although Kirsty was the senior agent, she was letting her new recruit do the talking.

"We respect the presence of the Mi-Go in the United States and other territories, but we we will not suffer your presence on British soil," declared Anna.

"And why not? We mean no harm to British humans," buzzed the Mi-Go controller.

"Simply because this world belongs to humanity and we will safeguard British control of this human territory. Besides this country is not safe for your kind. The Yellow Sign are very active in the United Kingdom. We cannot guarantee that your nest will not be raided or your people captured by the followers of the Yellow Sign."

"The world belongs to humanity? Our race came to this Earth long before your race emerged. We have made these mountains our home," buzzed the controller. "We will not leave this nest."

"I'm afraid our policy is clear. All Mi-Go must evacuate this nest," insisted Anna.

"And if we do not?"

"We will order the launch of air strikes on these mountains. All of you will be destroyed," she said solemnly.

"Then you will never leave here," buzzed the controller. "You will die with us."

Anna murmured in horror.

Kirsty sighed. It looked like they might need to fight it out of there. She raised a hand and fired off a ball of magic energy, which tore off the controller's claw. She and Anna then sprinted toward a tunnel.

A horde of buzzing Mi-Go skittered after them.

Kirsty muterred an arcane word. After this, rocks fell from the cave roof, separating the two humans from the pursuing Mi-Go.

"Do you know the way out? You might have trapped us!" exclaimed Anna.

"You'd rather take your chances with them?" said Kirsty.

They made their way through the narrow tunnel.

"Are we ever going to get out of here?" wailed Anna.

"You have a patron. Call on Seshat."

Anna whispered the name, "Seshat, aid us!"

"Seshat, mistress if wisdom, aid out escape," added Kirsty.

The figure of a woman clothed in a leopard skin briefly appeared. The tunnel then began to fill with an unearthly light.

"Well that does help," said Kirsty. "All that hippy stuff paid off in the end."

Anna managed a half laugh, half sob.

"Your first proper field assignment is going fine. You delivered the message to the Mi-Go and we are halfway through getting out of these mountains. Now we just leave it to the RAF to bomb these Mi-Go out of here."

"Bring on the next assignment," said Anna wearily.

No critique, but I would say, a brief proof read is needed. (A few typo's)

The story was interesting, very in-the-moment, and action driven. But I tear up when I think about the mountains of Wales getting air-raided. :)
