I was in Nottingham, Robin Hood country, this weekend. I was attending a charismatic evangelical conference for people in their twenties and thirties. My parents wanted to visit Nottingham as well, so we went together and they did some sight seeing while I attended the conference. I had stayed at the Jury's Inn hotel before and so I recommended us to stay there.

I was born in Nottingham and my parents both come from that city. It's changed a lot since then, of course. I noticed that a lot of people sounded a lot like how I talk when I am speaking a little less posh.

I met up with my parents on Sunday after the conference had finished. We went on a pub crawl, visiting several pubs in the city. Among them was Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, which is the oldest pub in the country, founded in 1189. It is actually built into the rock immediately below Nottingham Castle.

After out pub crawl, we went to a trendy steak house type restaurant. I had a crispy duck salad, followed by some BBQ pork ribs. I asked for a Sam Adams lager to drink with this, but they had ran out, so I instead I had a Camden Hells Lager.

Games Workshop has their headquarters in Nottingham, and this morning, the hotel was filled with Games Workshop employees from Spain, France and Italy. It was odd to see so many in one place.

What is the Nottingham accent like? Its not one you hear of often as compared to all the other regional ways of speaking. This is like halfway between the North and South right?

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem Pub! What beers did you drink there?

Amazing that Sam Adams has found its way into the UK.

Also Im sure the fall foliage is quite beautiful up there.
